Jasprit Bumrah, one of the biggest finds of the Indian Premier League (IPL), is currently ruling world cricket across formats. Before onboarding Bumrah in the 2013 season, Mumbai Indians (MI) would never have imagined that the pacer from Gujarat would accompany them on a decade-long journey and take them to greater heights.
The 30-year-old has been instrumental in MI’s five IPL triumphs and will be aiming to contribute his best in the upcoming 2024 season. Having played 120 matches in the cash-rich league, Bumrah is currently the second-highest wicket-taker for MI with over 140 scalps. His intimidating bowling action and perfect execution are set to give the batters another hell of a time at the crease. At the same time, some records are also awaiting the ace fast bowler.
Here are the top 5 records that Jasprit Bumrah can break in IPL 2024
Most Wickets for MI in IPL history

Lasith Malinga has been MI’s trump card for years and since the 2013 edition, he has got a perfect companion in Jasprit Bumrah. Under the guidance of the Sri Lanka legend, the Indian pacer flourished and established himself as the team’s go-to bowler, even before the former’s retirement.
With 170 wickets at an average of 19.79 from 122 IPL matches, Malinga is currently MI’s leading wicket-taker. His successor Bumrah is second on the list with 145 wickets. The right-arm pacer needs 26 more wickets in the 2024 season to top the chart.

Bumrah’s best IPL season was 2020, in which he took 27 wickets, including two four-wicket hauls, to lead MI to their back-to-back titles. However, it was Delhi Capitals’ Kagiso Rabada who won the Purple Cap for most wickets (30) in that year.
Malinga holds the record of taking the most wickets for MI in an IPL edition. The Yorker King was the leading wicket-taker in the 2011 season with 28 scalps. Considering Bumrah’s excellent form, he might break this record in the upcoming tournament
Most number of overs for MI
The maximum number of overs a bowler is allowed to bowl in T20 cricket is four. If the bowler has an off day or the conditions are not suitable for his bowling, he may not complete his quota. Hence, a bowler with most number of overs bowled is not the least record one can achieve because it shows his consistency and how much confidence the captain has in him.
For MI, the record is held by their former spinner Harbhajan Singh – who bowled 486.3 overs in a total of 136 matches. Lasith Malinga is second (471.1 overs), closely followed by Jasprit Bumrah (457.4). The pace spearhead needs to bowl 29 more overs to claim this record. There will be 14 matches in the league stage and if Bumrah plays in all of them, he can bowl a maximum of 56 overs
Most maiden overs for MI
T20 cricket gives batters the license to go berserk right from the word go. Hence, bowling a dot ball is a big task for bowlers. If so, aren’t those who bowl dot balls for an entire over special? Former India pacer Praveen Kumar has the most maiden overs in the IPL (14), followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star Bhuvneshwar Kumar (12).

Looking at MI’s stats, two seamers with 8 maiden overs top the list – Malinga and Bumrah. The latter needs just one more maiden over in the 2024 season to make this record his own. He is unlikely to overtake Praveen in this category as he needs seven more maiden overs. But he can become the third bowler in IPL history by surpassing Trent Boult’s record of 11 maiden overs.
Most five-wicket hauls for MI
A five-wicket haul in a match is considered one of the greatest feats by a bowler and if it’s in the T20 format, it’s the cherry on the cake. A total of six MI bowlers have breached this milestone in the IPL, Bumrah being one of them.
The elite fast bowler can set the record for the highest five-wicket haul for MI in the upcoming edition with just one fifer. Notably, only three bowlers in the league’s history have achieved this milestone more than once – James Faulkner, Jaydev Unadkat and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar (all twice).
